In September 2022 I made the leap to officially start Blue Coconut Publications and Mercantile LLC. The paperwork with the State of Missouri to file an LLC and set up sales tax were filed and a website was built.
I started reaching out to let people know that we had made it official, we were open for business. Since then, we have
published four children's books:
a book of poems:
a time travel book:
a book of spooky short stories:
and a book about an orphan's interaction with the Fae:
2024 shows similar promise as we are currently working on illustrating and laying out of a new children's book about a day in the life of a search and rescue bloodhound. We are really excited to get this project completed. Look for it in or before May 2024.
We also received an inquiry about ghost writing for an individual. More to come on the potential of this new project.
We are also in discussions about publishing a story about a bloodhound search and rescue group and its founder. This book has great potential for some really awesome pictures of bloodhounds doing what comes instinctually to them - finding people.
We also have three other children's books to publish, one more being written as we speak.
In addition, we publish all of our books in hardcopy editions first, mainly because libraries prefer hardback books for their durability, but we are now publishing all books in hardback and softcover (this is still in progress). By providing softcover editions the books are more affordable for people to purchase and we are excited to provide this option to our customers.
We also learned (still learning) how to do book trailers. The ones that we have completed are on the website. One of our next areas to expand to is ebooks and audio books. Both ventures that require learning additional skills which are on the agenda for our second full year of business.
We also include mercantile items that coincide with our books. These items can be published separately or in one of our Author Sets. One of the more
popular Author Sets is Sheep In A Sweater, which comes with a muslin bag and a hand crocheted sheep. The sheep are each given a Scottish name. The bag makes it easy for your child to carry their book and sheep to Grandma's house or to daycare. Check them out today.
